Celer the artist comes to the house to draw a painting, but can not get in, so he knocks on the door. No one answers him, so he screams and this time the dog hears him and starts barking. Now the son hears the dog and opens the door for Celer and Celer enters.

Matella leads Celler into the dinning room. Celer starts painting in the dinning room. A lion and Hercules are fighting in the painting. Caecilius enters the dinning room and praises the painting.

Caecilius brings home Melissa

Caecilius walks to the harbor. He looks around the harbor and sees the banker. They both spot the Syrian ship filled with slaves and head to toward it. Syphax is standing near the ship. The banker greets Syphax. Syphax is a dealer. Caecilius greets Syphax. Caecilius searches the slaves. The banker and Caecilius are not satisfied and they dont buy any slaves. Syphax then offers wine. Caecilius and the banker drink wine. Caecilius thinks the maid is beautiful. The maid laughs and delights Caecilius. He buys her and takes her home. She delights Grumio and Quintum too.

Summary:  Caecilius walks into a shop where a barber, Pantagathus, is cutting the beard of an old man.  A poet walks in a recites an obscene verse of poetry.  Caecilius enjoys the verse, but Pantagathus does not like how dirty it is.  He yells at the poet, and cuts the old man!  Caecilius leaves the  shop (and rightly so)!

Caecilius is not at home, he is at the forum. Caecilius sees the painter in the forum and they they greet each other. The barber is also at the forum and greets Caecilius. The slave dealer also comes to the forum expecting the merchant. The merchant does not come which upsets the slave dealer.

Caecilius' friend visits. Friend is merchant. merchant enters the villa. Clemens is in the atrio. Clemens greets the merchant. Caecilius is in the study. Caecilius is counting money. Caecilius is a banker. Friend enters the study. Caecilius rises.
"salve!" Caecilius greets the merchant.
"salve!" merchant responds.
Caecilius enters the dining room. Friend cook enters. friend is reclining on a couch. banker reclines on a couch. Grumio is singing in the kitchen. Grumio cooks a peacock. cook is happy. Cacilius hears cook. Caecilius is not happy. Caecilius is waiting for his dinner. friend is waiting for his dinner. Caecilius blames Grumio.

Caecilius' friend the merchant visits him. Clemens greets the merchant in the atrio. The merchant goes to the study, and Caecilius says hello. The merchant says hello back. They go to the dining room, and rest on a couch. Grumio is singing in the kitchen while cooking a peacock. Caecilius hears him singing, and is not happy. Caecilius blames Grumio for bringing the food in late.

Grumio, Clemens, Caecilius, and the merchant are in the dining room. Grumio brings peacock to the for Cecilius and the merchant to eat. They eat the peacock and praise the food. Then the slave girl comes into the room singing, and pleases both the merchant and the master. The master and the merchant leave and Grumio re-enters the room. He sees the slave girl and they begin to please each other.
